We turn to professional consultants for an array of services. We have financial consultants, spiritual leaders, fitness consultants, dietary consultants, and the list goes on. For our most precious senior friends and family, why would we not turn to professional senior décor solutions to maximize the quality and safety of life that our seniors deserve?

There are an assortment of strategic designs and décor physical laydown strategies that produce optimal safety and comfort for our seniors. There is a concept called “single level design” which blends the functional spaces of the apartment to the senior’s changing lifestyle. Walking up and down stairs becomes challenging as a person ages. This apartment design is universally appealing and helpful.

We need to ensure that transition spaces will be wide enough to accommodate wheelchair movement. Ideally, all open spaces will be at least 60 inches by 60 inches, this is the area needed for turning. And the corridors will be as wide as possible. Lastly, do not forget the powerful seat in the shower which is a blessing for the elderly and at the same time useful for shaving legs. It will be favorable if the pull-out cabinet shelves will save hassle for people of all ages. There are multi-level counters which are placed at countertops at a variety of heights that will allow more people to work efficiently and comfortably. The best thing about this universal apartment design is that it will make the basic tasks of life easier for all people regardless of disability or age.

Lastly, falling is a serious concern for the elderly. A multi-generational apartment will include slip-resistant surfaces as well as grab bars in the shower and anywhere else spills are likely to occur. It will give a total win design for any open floor plan of an apartment if a combined kitchen/dining/living area is generally easier for those in wheelchairs to navigate. Further, it will allow people to monitor their environment using lines of sight rather than their sense of hearing.
